Kaizer Meadow Wind Project

The Municipality of the District of Chester wanted to play an active role in decarbonizing Nova Scotia's electricity grid. Minas Energy undertook development and project management services for a 2 MW wind turbine that provides renewable energy and financial benefits to the Municipality.

Specific Opportunity

Community entities can participate in Nova Scotia's Community Feed-In Tariff program designed to promote small-scale renewable energy development across the province.

Evaluation

Using its extensive project development expertise, Minas Energy prepared a business case, including a detailed financial model and other required documentation, to secure approval under the community feed-in tariff program designed to promote small-scale renewable energy development across the province. Minas Energy:

  • managed the wind data acquisition and evaluation

  • oversaw environmental permitting and community engagement

  • negotiated equipment purchase

  • managed construction of the project - Nova Scotia's first MW-scale installation
    under the feed-in tariff program

Results

Local ownership of renewable energy, reduced dependence on imported fossil fuels, increased revenue for a small municipality. The project led to further feasibility studies on anaerobic digestion, biomass and solar potential in the municipality and the creation of Municipal Energy Strategy.
