Ellershouse Wind Farm
Minas Energy permitted, developed and managed the construction of a 24 MW municipally-owned wind farm that sells power to partnering municipalities. This project generated new sources of revenue for the communities while promoting economic development in rural areas.
Evaluation
Minas Energy identified and evaluated a number of opportunities and determined that the best way to generate new revenue sources, promote economic development and lower energy costs was to help our clients form an inter-municipal partnership so they could own a medium-sized renewable energy asset.
Action Plan
The towns of Berwick, Antigonish and Mahone Bay relied on Minas Energy to use its experience and expertise to navigate the new energy landscape. We ensured the communities were supported and given the best solution to fit their needs. Minas Energy then managed the development and construction of a $50 million wind farm on behalf of these 3 municipalities.
Results
The Ellershouse Wind Farm provides a new source of revenue for the participating rural municipalities and community benefits for the surrounding area all while successfully competing on price with conventional sources of electricity.
